Instant Pressure Unit Conversion – Science & Engineering

Pressure is defined as force per unit area. Our pressure converter supports all major units: Pascal (Pa), Kilopascal (kPa), Megapascal (MPa), Bar, Millibar (mbar), PSI (pounds per square inch), Atmosphere (atm), Torr, Millimeter of Mercury (mmHg), Inch of Mercury (inHg), Foot of Water (ftH₂O), and Centimeter of Water (cmH₂O).

      Understanding Different Pressure Units

The Pascal (Pa) is the SI unit of pressure, equal to one newton per square meter. It is a small unit; common multiples are kilopascal (kPa) and megapascal (MPa).

      Metric Pressure Units

Bar is widely used in meteorology and engineering. 1 bar = 100,000 Pa. Millibar (mbar) = 100 Pa, often used for air pressure.

      Imperial/US Customary Units

PSI (pounds per square inch) is common in automotive tires, hydraulic systems, and industrial applications in the US. 1 PSI ≈ 6894.76 Pa.

      Atmospheric and Vacuum Units

Atmosphere (atm) is the average pressure at sea level: 1 atm = 101,325 Pa. Torr and mmHg are nearly identical (1 Torr ≈ 133.322 Pa), used in vacuum measurements and medicine.

      Fluid Head Units

Inch of Mercury (inHg) and Foot of Water (ftH₂O) are based on the height of a liquid column, used in hydraulics and aviation.

      How to Convert Pressure Units

All conversions use the base unit Pascal. Multiply the value in the source unit by its Pascal factor, then divide by the target unit’s Pascal factor.

      • PSI to Bar: multiply by 0.0689476 (1 PSI ≈ 0.06895 bar)
      • Bar to PSI: multiply by 14.5038
      • Atm to kPa: multiply by 101.325

      Real-World Pressure Examples

      • Standard car tire pressure: about 32 PSI ≈ 2.2 bar ≈ 220 kPa.
      • Atmospheric pressure at sea level: 1 atm = 101.325 kPa = 14.7 PSI.
      • Blood pressure (systolic) typical: 120 mmHg ≈ 16 kPa.
      • Diving pressure increases by 1 atm every 10 meters of seawater.
